The rapid expansion of animal production and the increased consumption of animal products is putting an increasing strain on natural resources, competing for land, water, energy. Approximately one third of global crop land is used to create animal feed for livestock.

Whilst the nature of livestock production continues to evolve and develop around the world, traditional forms of agriculture and livestock rearing remain at the heart of many rural communities.

From large scale production to native small scale operations, safeguarding animal health plays a vital role in creating a sustainable and safe supply of food as well as providing a source of income for many of the world’s poorest communities.
